Mission Statement
The mission of Lamar Consolidated ISD Librarians is to create a physical and digital environment in which our students, staff, and community can strengthen their natural inquisitive nature, foster a love of reading, and serve as a collaborative resource for teachers and staff in developing and delivering powerful learning experiences across all curricular areas.
Student Checkout and Classes
The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Students visit the library every week for checkouts and every other week for a library lesson. Students can also check outs books on ISD days.
Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and first grade students are permitted to checkout one book per week. Students in second, third, fourth and fifth grades may checkout two books per week. They may not checkout any new books unless the previous books are returned or renewed.
Library Activities
The library sponsors a fall book fair and a Read-A-Thon fundraiser. These events are to encourage at home reading and the proceeds are used to help to buy books and pay for special author visits and programs. In addition, the library sponsors several voluntary reading enrichment programs including the Texas Bluebonnet Reading Club (grades 3-5), the Texas 2x2 Reading Club (grades K-2), the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club (K-5), Austin Reading Incentive Program (PK-5), the Book-It reading program (K-5).
Volunteers
Library volunteers are an essential part of our program. They help in running the circulation desk, labeling and shelving books, which allows the librarian to devote more time to teach children the valuable skills of enjoying literature and becoming information masters. Please contact Mrs. Barr if you are interested in volunteering.
Damaged Books
When a book is returned damaged beyond repair, the replacement cost of the book will be charged. Damage to library materials includes but is not limited to: spills from food, drink or other substances; damage to cover or spine; cutting or tearing pages; or writing with pencil, pen, markers, etc.
Lost Books
Once a book is 30 days past due, the system will mark it as "lost" and students will be charged for the replacement cost of the book. If the book is found and returned in good condition, the fee will be dropped. If the student has already paid for the book but finds and returns it in good condition (during the same school year), then the amount paid will be refunded.
Cash or personal checks are acceptable forms of payment for fines or to cover the replacement cost of damaged or lost books. Please make personal checks out to Austin Elementary Library.
Returning Books
All books should be returned in the library return box at the end the circulation desk. If the library is closed, students should drop their library books in the front office. It is the student's responsibility to return library books on or before the due date. Students do not have to wait for a class visit to return a book.
